Almost a quarter of the world's population lives in substandard shelter, impacting their health, livelihoods and children's education. Since 1976, Habitat for Humanity International has mobilized communities to build more than 300,000 homes for these families worldwide. But as the world's poor become increasingly urbanized, the issue of shelter is becoming more urgent, and new solutions are needed. Since 2000, HFHI has pioneered innovative methods for using financial services to enable families to improve their housing. The massive need for shelter requires an initiative to support scale solutions that build upon the lessons, energy and innovation of these efforts and others.
HFHI’s Center for Innovation in Shelter and Finance aims to advance the development of demand-driven, scalable housing solutions to low-income communities. The Center promotes and supports vibrant housing finance solutions through advisory services, research, knowledge management and learning exchanges.
