Friday the Thirteenth meets power tools
By Lauren Arnold
Well, this could be interesting: Friday the thirteenth meets power tools. Then again, my personal lack of construction skills and general clumsiness continues year-round. Perhaps that’s why my assignments included this relatively safe task—blogging.
Unlucky date and some rain aside, it has been a great week! Our crews have weatherized homes, worked to complete an ICF slab foundation, painted, landscaped, and built staircases and handicap ramps.
We have been welcomed, well fed and well cared for. Thanks to these smaller, regionalized builds, we have gotten to know each other as AmeriCorps members and people. We have grown relationships with these people and this place. This is my final event as an AmeriCorps, and I could not have asked to finish my term of service in a more beautiful place.
Thank you, West Virginia, for a wonderful experience!

She has enjoyed her time with Habitat because has allowed her to give back to her hometown and build new relationships. What she’s looking forward to most at this year’s Build-a-Thon is talking with volunteers and partner families about what it is like to build and live in a “Habitat neighborhood.”
