![]() House Ushers in a New Day for Poole Family AMERICUS, Georgia (March 31, 1999) -- When eight people make their home in a tiny apartment, hope for something better can be elusive. Fortunately, Nathan and Brenda Poole never lost that hope, and -- after diligent prayer and hundreds of sweat-equity hours -- are on the brink of homeownership. "It's been a lot of hard work, but if it's worth it in the end, you don't mind doing it," said Nathan Poole. "It's nothing compared to the rewards you get when it's all over." The Pooles, who at week's end will move into House No. 8 with six children ranging from toddler to teen-ager, said there will never be words enough to thank all the EMB volunteers. "With all these people coming from all over to help us, this week has really shown me that good people are still everywhere in the world," Nathan Poole said. "I once had my doubts, but the Lord proved otherwise with all these good, splendid people." Poole said he and his wife have enjoyed every minute of this week, working with "some of the best people you'll ever meet, who will help you any way they can." And Mrs. Poole said that kind of support is the best indicator of what Habitat for Humanity is all about. "The most important thing is to see people come help you, people you don't even know," Mrs. Poole said. "Everyone has really pulled together, and we're thankful for that." While the Pooles' children are too young to be on the construction site, they have seen the house and can't wait to move in. "They're so excited, it's like a kid with a new toy," Nathan Poole said. "We all just feel like we've been born again, especially after hoping and praying this day would come, and here it is. With all these people, it has arrived."
