‘New beginnings’

As I pulled up to the job site this morning, I had to stop and take a few moments to gaze down the street. To the average person, it may have just looked like seven slabs on an empty street, but to me it was seven new beginnings — new beginnings for the seven hard-working, deserving families who will now have a safe, affordable home to call their own. New beginnings for many of the builders and sub-contractors who may have been at one time skeptical about building so many homes in less than a week.

As I walked up to the other builders and sub-contractors, I noticed the anticipation and excitement that was generating. The families had also arrived to help, each with a big smile. Everyone was ready to get started in making dreams become a reality.

As the day progressed, the builders and I were continually amazed at how smoothly the project was going but, more than that, we could not help but notice the volunteers’ dedication and hard work. At the end of the day, the exterior of each of the seven homes is nearly finished and we are all ahead of schedule.

I can already imagine the children riding their bikes up and down the street and playing ball out in their front yards.
