Getting the message out...

With the kick-off of the Home Builders Blitz this week, we opened with a “live feed” by the New York City Fox News station. Because of the size and complexity of the two-family home we are building, we have already started the home. Rolling out of bed before the birdies, I arrived at 5:45 a.m. to see the truck running. The reporter arrived a short time later and shortly after 6, we broadcast the first of eight segments. By the end of the morning, the reporter interviewed the family receiving the home, Habitat people and K. Hovnanian people. We also got someone from GAF Materials Corporation who donated the roofing shingles on the air. Also, by the time we were done, reporter Ann had helped raise and toe-in a wall in the garage, slide a gas line from the roll through a guide hole, give us all gray hairs as she slipped while leaning out a window, drive a nail, and nail on some roofing shingles. It was fun and we got Habitat’s and K. Hovnanian’s messages out.

Our home, as I said, was actually started about two or three weeks ago. It is two three-bedroom flats stacked one on top of the other with a garage below it. By today, the home was framed and closed in, windows installed and some plumbing done. Over the next few days, it’ll get roofing and siding as well as some inside work.
