Bedford Virginia HFH is a locally run affiliate of
Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for
Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The
houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses. Back To Top |

 The Ride Virginia Poker Run to benefit BHFH will be Saturday, April 18th. Eight affiliates across the Commonwealth will have rides on that day. The 50-mile ride begins at Bedford Kawasaki with registration from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The ride proceeds through scenic east and southeast Bedford County ending at Harley-Davidson Lynchburg. The Bedford County Corvette Club is joining the ride. Prizes from over 50 sponsors as well as 1st, 2nd and "worst-hand" poker prizes will be awarded 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm. Fees are $25 - Driver, $20 - passengers. Bedford Kawasaki, Counts Realty Group and Harley-Davidson Lynchburg are co-sponsors. To pre-register send name and fee(s) to Bedford's Habitat address. Open House was Sunday, September 28, 2008 for house #13, an energy efficient structure certified by EarthCraft Virginia. House #12 was also certified energy efficient. Lowe's gift card matching on their opening day July 10th raised $5,000 for Bedford's Habitat. $6245 in gift cards were bought by Habitat's faithful and generous friends. Lowe's matched the purchases up to $5,000. Thanks to all you supporters. Bedford HFH is doing its first rehab at 1083 Oriole Court in Body Camp. New vinyl siding, a new heating system, new interior doors and new appliances will make this three bedroom house into a home for a deserving family by Spring. Donations, which may be made online, are always needed to support Bedford Habitat in moving eligible families to home ownership. Donate autos, trucks, motor homes, boats, farm and construction equipment through Habitat for Humanity's national Cars for Homes Program. Call 1-877-277-4344 or visit www.carsforhomes.org. Also,The Carpenters' Club consists of people who contribute $50 monthly, $50 quarterly, $50 semi-annually or $50 annually. Members receive a refrigerator magnet and bumper sticker for helping BHFH end substandard housing. Mail 'Att. Carpenters' Club' or call for more information. The public is always welcome to attend the Habitat Board meetings held the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the conference room at 108 Center Street, Bedford.

|
Skilled and unskilled volunteers are needed for the construction work. In addition to construction work, volunteers are needed for coordination, committee work and to handle public relations. We have an urgent need for a person or couple to head the Development/ Fund Raising Committee. Tell us what you can do by leaving a message at 540 587-0280.
Yvonne Dinish-Noble chairs the Family Selection Committee. Case & Coby Pieterman teach the Homeowners' course. Information meetings for those who wish to qualify for the next Habitat house are held periodically. You must attend one of these meetings to qualify. If you or someone you know is in need of decent, affordable housing, please have them call 540 587-0280 and leave their information. |
