Habitat - Powhatan is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

Accepting applications: The family selection committe will be searching for two qualified families for these new homes starting in Febuary 2009. Please contact the habitat office for an application. We will complete home #4 for the Merrick family in late Spring. Our goal for the remainder of 2009 is to start two more houses on the Debra Lane building sites purchased at the county tax auction. 2009 Annual Meeting: Please join us at The Mill at Fine Creek at 6:30pm on March 26th.
Get Involved
Our plan for 2009 is to build 2 affordable homes for lower income families in Powhatan. That will require the complete support of our community in volunteer labor, donated and discounted professional services and building materials and of course money. If you would like to help please call the HfH - Powhatan office at 804-794-1700. Habitat Board meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at 5:30PM at the habitat office building at 1480 Anderson Hwy
