NW Iowa Corridor HFH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

2009 is shaping-up to be a banner year for the NW Iowa Corridor affiliate. Efforts to become financially ready to build, have paid off and our goal is to build two homes in 2009.
As soon as the ground thaws, digging will begin on our build #1 in the community of Milford. Our Partner Family has been patiently waiting until a lot was purchased - and while they waited each and every one of them pitched-in for their required hours of service.
More news to come on build #2. Right now, we're seeking applications from families for a home to be built in Spencer, Iowa yet this year!
If you're interested in volunteering, or better yet want to put together a crew or team of 6-10 workers this is a good time to start planning.
Individuals of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. If you don't have a skill, we'll find a way you can help.
We will have two builds in 2009, so there will be opportunities to work from early spring to late fall.

If you or someone you know is in need of decent, affordable housing, please call 712-336-4700 for more information about the process of applying for Habitat home ownership.
Applications can be mailed to you, or they may be picked up at either the Spencer or Spirit Lake Public Libraries. I
