Habitat - Powhatan is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

The Chris & Stephanie Howell family home #5 is scheduled to be completed by March 31.
The Chandler family has been selected for the next home sponsored by Bon Air Friends of Habitat. Construction will start when the weather permits.
The Annual Meeting will be held at the Mill at Fine Creek on March 25. All are invited.
We thank our many volunteers for their work on the Howell home. We will need more help once the Chandler home construction begins. Most of the work is done on Saturdays although our retired carpenters work during the week.
Please contact the habitat office if you would like to volunteer.
The window is closed for applications and will not open again until sometime in 2010. If you would like to receive an application at that time please contact the habitat office by phone or email.
