SCHFH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

Special Events

Months of planning turned into a wonderful night of fellowship and celebration. Thank you to the over 100 people who joined us at our anniversary celebration on April 22, 2006. A special thank you to Faith Baptist Church who opened their doors to host the celebration and to the seven area banks who's kind donations helped to cover the expeneses of the night. It was an enjoyable night for all who attended.
Remember to mark you calanders for the annual Habitat Yard Sale and the Toyota Tsusho Women's Habitat Basketball Classic.
The annual yard sale will be held on Saturdays during the month of August. Large furniture appliances will be sold from the KU warehouse on Clinton street, while all other items will be sold from Factory Stores Unit 216. To donate to the sale or for more information please call 863-4189 or 867-8962. All funds raised go towards helping build houses for those in need in Scott County.

Construction Update

The mortgage for the Apostles build house was signed on June 1st and another family now has a home to call their own. A special thank you to the eight churches who united to work together to complete this project.
After some modifications and lots of weather delays, work has continued in Stamping Ground. With the help of many volunteers, the goal is to have the house completed by the end of the summer. If you would be interesting in helping with the remaining work, please contact Tom Scholl at (502) 863-4551. The Mullins family is excited about the possibility of having their own yard. With your help another family will be able to have a home of their own.

Get Involved

For more information please call our office at (502) 863-9200.

To become a partner family with Scott County Habitat for Humanity, there are qualifications that must be addressed to assure that there isn't any confusion. If you or someone you know is in need of decent, affordable housing and can answer yes to the following questions, please call our office for more information about the process of applying for Habitat home ownership.

1. Do you currently live in Scott County?
2. Does your total household income from all sources and from all wage earners living with you fall between $14,000 - $38,000 per year? (If your income is below or above the ranges, you may still qualify for a Habitat home.)
3. Are you currently living in substandard housing or overcrowded housing?
4. Are you willing to work at least 300 hours of 'sweat equity' in the process of building your home? (In addition to your current employment, think about how this may add 30 hours of extra work per month.)
5. Are you willing to relocate within Scott County?
6. Is your financial history clear of bankruptcy? Or if you have declared bankruptcy, is it fully discharged?

Help us eliminate substandard housing in our community! It's quick, easy and safe to support the house-building, hope-building work of SCHFH through Habitat for Humanity International's secure online donation system. You can even send a gift card announcing your donation in honor of a loved one or a special occasion.
