Home

Habitat Gaston is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Hammers

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

News

Habitat Gaston is celebrating its 15th Annversary in 2004. After thousands of volunteers and 59 homes constructed in Gaston County, the need for simple, decent housing is still unmet. Homes built in 2004 include partnerships with First Presbyterian Church of Gastonia, with their 5th home; the Belmont Building Committee with their 16th homes; and with a group of Habitat International 'RV Care-A-Vanners', who put together a home in a two-week period in October.Churches have become very involved in the Christian ministry of 'Love in Action' in the past year. Area churches and their members from Mt. Holly worked together to produce a Community Christmas Choir last December. The Belmont Committee hosted a biennial Silent Auction and Dinner in Febraury. The Church Relations committee hosted a first-ever 'Pastors Breakfast' on September 15 as part of the annual 'Build on Faith Week'. The Habitat Store, has enjoyed a wonderful year with net proceeds ahead of last year's production. The Habitat Store sells used furniture, appliances, electrical and building supplies, housewares, books and collectibles. Check out the Time Warner local access channel for specific sales and specials. Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County would like to invite the community in an end-of-year Christmas Appeal, by considering a donation through the Habitat Interantional secure donation line. Proceeds are returned to the local Habitat Office for use in Gaston County.
