Freeport Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

We are currently working on the development of the Habitat Subdivision located on Locust Street at Winnefred Street across from the High school soccer field. Lack of finances is keeping us from starting construction. The subdivision will contain three ranch homes with full basements and garages. We hope to start construction late in 2011. Come talk to us at the 2011 Freeport Home Show at the YMCA at Highland College. The show will be held March 12th and 13th. It will be open from 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday and from 11 AM to 4 PM on Sunday.
