About
HfHUC is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

**Habitat for Humanity of Unicoi County is proud to announce that we are participating in Disney's "Give a day, Get a Disney Day" Program. All you have to do is register at DisneyParks.disney.go.com, then work at least one day on an HfHUC project and receive a voucher for 1 day at 1 Disney Park or resort. Participation and eligibility are determined and distributed by Disney Parks Inc. Terms and conditions apply. Limit 1 voucher per person, and 8 vouchers per family,children must be 6 years old to partisipate.

**Habitat for Humanity of Unicoi County is currently accepting applications and volunteers “A BRUSH WITH KINDNESS”. Habitat for Humanity’s A Brush with Kindness is a locally-operated program serving low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes. The program is a holistic approach to providing affordable housing and assisting communities as well as families. Applications may be obtained at the office of Habitat for Humanity of Unicoi County, located at Centenary United Methodist Church, 203 N. Elm Ave. in Erwin, or at the offices of Erwin Church of God, 799 Rock Creek Rd, Shallow Ford Baptist Church, 313 Old Highway Rd, or Erwin Presbyterian Church, 105 N. Elm Ave, all in Erwin. Applications must be completed and returned to HfHUC no later than February 15, 2010. A Brush with Kindness projects will begin in mid March and will be prioritized based upon need.

**We are also looking for our next build site, and our next dedicated Habitat Family. We are actively raising funds so that we can begin our next build as quickly as possible. **Habitat for Humanity of Unicoi County will be holding 2 volunteer trainings in the coming weeks:

1) Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 5:30 pm in the meeting room of Erwin City Hall, Habitat for Humanity of Unicoi County will hold a volunteer orientation for anyone who may be interested in volunteering for any Habitat project. At this orientation, you will get an overview of Habitat for Humanity and its many volunteer opportunities, as well as the application process.

2) Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 5:30 pm in the meeting room of Erwin City Hall, safety and skills for Habitat for Humanity project sites. This training will prepare volunteers for “A Brush with Kindness” as well as other projects for a safe and productive work site. There is no charge for these trainings, and all interested parties are invited to attend.

HOW CAN I HELP HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF UNICOI COUNTY? You can help HfHUC in many ways, we can accept donations including, but not limited to funds, building materials, advertising, skilled and unskilled volunteers, office workers, land donations, etc. All donations are tax deductable. We are currently seeking volunteers for our new program, "A Brush with Kindness"
