Building on Faith events
Building on Faith events can be small or grand. The purpose of the events is to mobilize the faith community to build houses for those in need. Following are highlights from Building on Faith events through the years.
- Habitat for Humanity in Northern Alabama built a home in 10 ½ hours in a local parking lot. The house was then moved it to a permanent site.
- In Pensacola, Florida, more than 1,000 people worked on the home designated as Habitat’s 50,000th house. Thirty-nine churches helped revitalize an area where Habitat homes replaced condemned structures.
- Habitat’s 50,001st house was constructed next to the 6,500th house built in Mexico City, Mexico.
- More than 150 local church volunteers representing nine faith communities built 21 block homes in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
- Four Habitat affiliates in the Seattle, Washington area joined local churches and built four houses in eight days.
- In Birmingham, Alabama, The Women’s Missionary Union kicked off an eight-house project on the former site of several shootings.
- Habitat for Humanity in Omaha, Nebraska commemorated its 100th house during Building on Faith week.
- Habitat affiliates in four states planned building projects, worship services, house dedications, benefit concerts, clergy workdays, community meetings and ice cream socials.
- Twenty-two church coalitions built 30 more houses than originally planned during their Building on Faith week.
- Fourteen Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the Philippines worked on or dedicated 120 houses at 16 sites.
- Three thousand volunteers and 14 churches built 15 houses in a week and celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Lubbock, Texas Habitat for Humanity.
- More than 150 clergy and staff members helped build one of seven church-sponsored homes in Fort Worth, Texas.
- In Cincinnati, Ohio, a coalition of seven churches completed the Habitat affiliate's 100th house after working for 100 days.
- In Fort Wayne, Indiana, 43 small churches joined together to build a Building on Faith house.
- In Portland, Oregon, seventeen-year-old Sarah Baker headed the Building on Faith committee, where 10 returning churches and three new churches worked on five houses during the week.
- In El Salvador, more than 400 volunteers worked together to raise funds and build 16 houses.
