Habitat for Humanity International invites you to take a journey of hope to Haiti to learn more about Habitat’s commitment to serving 50,000 families affected by the January 2010 earthquake.
- Witness firsthand how Habitat is transforming lives and communities in one of the world’s poorest and most complicated countries.
- Learn about the complex issues underlying poverty and substandard housing.
- See how Habitat is a powerful catalyst for change.
- Be part of a solution that is bringing hope and brighter futures to families in need of decent shelter.
Trip overview:
During your three days in Haiti, you will see the realities and challenges of working in a country with so little infrastructure and so much poverty.
You will also learn about the strategies that Habitat has adopted to meet these challenges; for example, its focus on livelihood strategies, community engagement and land tenure issues.
Trip highlights:
We hope this three-day trip will be a life-changing experience for those who participate. Our brief time in Haiti will include a mix of educational opportunities, worksite visits and community activities.
Highlights include:
- Tours of areas destroyed by the earthquake that Habitat has targeted for its rebuilding efforts.
- Visits to communities where Habitat has already helped families improve their living situations.
- Information sessions to learn about the housing challenges and opportunities in Haiti.
- Meetings with Habitat Haiti leaders, local business owners and community leaders.
- Discussions with local families who are partnering with Habitat to improve their lives.
Cost:
Participants will each contribute US$10,000 to Habitat for Humanity Haiti.
The majority of this donation will go directly to providing housing solutions to homeless families. In addition to supporting the work of Habitat Haiti, this contribution will cover:
- Lodging
- Meals
- In-country transportation
- Security and evacuation insurance
- Workshop support
- Other on-the-ground expenses.
Airfare to and from Port-au-Prince and any applicable visa or entry fees are not included.
