Kyrgyzstan: Giving thanks to the partners

Large and small, Habitat tithes represent so much more than funding. They build the relationships between partner affiliates, relationships which weave the threads of neighborly understanding into the wider global community. Habitat affiliates are required to dedicate part of their income to support global projects.

In the spirit of this season, we at Habitat for Humanity Kyrgyzstan wish our tithe partner affiliates peace, joy and God’s blessings. We are grateful for the friendships with US and international affiliates and dedication towards families in need of a decent shelter in other countries.

A partnership between Habitat for Humanity Kyrgyzstan and Habitat for Humanity of Hood County, Texas, is a good example of this friendship. The organizations started to work together in 2003 after they met at the regional conference in Texas, where a presentation made by Habitat Kyrgyzstan highlighted housing needs in the country. Since then and despite our differences in things as vital as construction techniques, not to mention the vast miles which separate us, Habitat Hood County has still managed to help serve 21 families in Kyrgyzstan.

The projects for the families differed depending on their individual needs. Some received newly built houses, some benefited from renovations and some managed to complete their unfinished houses. Whatever the change, the improvement for each family was tangible. Only tithing allowed these projects to happen.

“We are so proud of the incredible things they are doing for families in Kyrgyzstan and what creative ways they have found to improve existing structures, as well as the creative construction of new homes. Habitat Kyrgyzstan communicates regularly with us and we enjoy monthly newsletters, cards, pictures and e-mails. We truly feel that we are in this ministry together with Habitat Kyrgyzstan. They are our brothers and sisters on the other side of the world”, writes Carol Davidson, Executive Director of HFH Hood County.

We are always grateful to all Habitat affiliates who make our work in Kyrgyzstan possible. With Thanksgiving coming, we want to take this opportunity to thank each and every affiliate who has ever tithed money to support Habitat for Humanity Kyrgyzstan.

Thank you for your dedication. “Chong Rakhmat” to each of you and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
