World number one woman tennis player Amelie Mauresmo has won her second Grand Slam this year, Wimbledon.

We sincerely congratulate Ms. Mauresmo on her triumph!

Amelie Mauresmo has been Habitat for Humanity’s ambassador for more than two years now. She met with Habitat children’s drawing contest winner, Rustam Galeev at the Zurich Open in October. Habitat homeowner child from Kyrgyzstan won the Europe/Central Asia-wide children’s drawing contest “What Home Means to Me”.

As grand prize winner, Rustam and his parents were flown to Zurich to attend tennis matches and meet with Amelie, who presented him with a stuffed St. Bernard.

Tennis star Nadia Petrova of Russia is also Habitat for Humanity ambassador. Petrova spent a day building with Habitat staff and volunteers in Cluj, Romania in September 2005.

Whirlpool is the largest global partner of Habitat for Humanity. It has supported the charity since 1999 and, with its sponsorship of the Tour in Europe, has introduced women’s professional tennis to the charity, which has become the Tour’s official European social cause.

Whirlpool has supported the charity in many ways over a number of years, both through conventional and unconventional means. Support has ranged from product donations of a Whirlpool appliance to every Habitat home to Whirlpool employees actively helping in building projects.

Whirlpool and the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour launched a series of exciting new initiatives such as ‘Aces for Homes’. For every ace slammed, 10 euros are donated to building Habitat homes in the tsunami-devastated area of Chennai, India. The Whirlpool ‘Love Food’ cookbook was also published earlier this year, featuring favorite recipes of top players, along with the Whirlpool Players Painting which was auctioned off with proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity
