Habitat for Humanity and Crowne Plaza Bratislava partner to fight poverty housing

August 26, 2009

BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA (26 August, 2009)–The Crowne Plaza hotel in Bratislava and Habitat for Humanity have joined forces for the innovative partnership “Turning Hope into Homes” to raise resources to combat poverty housing in Slovakia and around the globe.

As part of this initiative starting September 1st 2009, all Crowne Plaza guests will be given an opportunity to support Habitat for Humanity’s work through the addition of a small donation of €1 per night or more to their bill upon check out. Funds generated through the program will be used to improve living conditions for the low-income families in Slovakia. Later, this initiative can be expanded to finance projects throughout Europe and Central Asia.

“The world’s housing need is enormous. A greater awareness of poverty housing issues is essential if we want to reduce the number of people living in slums without proper shelter. By supporting the program, Crowne Plaza guests will be helping many people in this region get a new home and a door into a better life,” said Robert Vlasic, fundraiser with Habitat for Humanity Europe and Central Asia office.

Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates simple, decent and affordable homes for needy people with the help of volunteers, future homeowners and donations of funds and materials. From initiatives worldwide, it is now able to serve a family every 24 minutes by building or renovating homes, offering small home-improvement loans, providing access to clean water and improving sanitation. Since its foundation in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has built and renovated more than 300,000 homes, providing shelter for 1.5 million people. In Slovakia, it has been working on improving living conditions for the underprivileged families in eastern regions.

The Crowne Plaza Bratislava provides a home away from home for business people and travelers visiting Slovakia. As a part of the Intercontinental Hotels Group, Crowne Plaza Bratislava develops and reinforces corporate sponsorship actions in countries where it operates. Based on the common interest in providing a comfortable place to stay for people, the Crowne Plaza hotel in Bratislava and Habitat for Humanity have signed a partnership agreement for the “Turning Hope into Homes” initiative.
