Eighty-six employees of Aviva insurance group joined Habitat for Humanity in Cluj, Romania for a blitz build, completing three homes in just five days. The volunteers were so keen to build that they ran out of tasks well ahead of the deadline; in the end, they just started work on a fourth house as well.

“Teamwork was the key element that made this project a success. The volunteers were united by the same goal: to keep their promises to the beneficiary families and local community,” said Andy McLennan, Director of Market Development of Aviva Romania.

Thanks to Aviva’s building enthusiasm, three families will shortly be moving into their simple, decent homes. For Marioara Gocan and her two daughters, that will mean the end of living in small rooms without kitchen or bathroom, where you can barely turn around. At some point, the family even had to live in a room without any windows.

“This selection is my biggest ever blessing. I know what it means to look for your place, for yourself and your family, and I will continue to come to the worksite and help other families. This is a way for me to express my joy and gratitude,” said Attila Popoviciu, from another partner family. Attila distinguished himself as a star volunteer, completing 700 hours on Habitat building site—before he even knew the family would be selected for a home.

Aviva’s contribution to the building of three homes in Cluj was topped by a €100,000 donation.
