Since the launch of the partnership in Europe in July 2004, Whirlpool together with Habitat has supported an incredible 10,000 families. This came in a variety of forms, from financially contributing almost €700,000 to the delivery of around one thousand Whirlpool appliances worth almost €200,000 to partner families, and more than 500 Whirlpool employees donating their time to build homes in Europe, Central Asia and South Africa.

“Great to hear we hit the 10,000 mark! Now on to the next 10,000!” said Bracken Darrell, president, Whirlpool Europe, in his communication with Habitat. This statement clearly illustrates the commitment of Whirlpool Europe’s top management to the partnership with Habitat.

At the end of April, 2010, Whirlpool Europe’s entire senior leadership team will volunteer their time at an energy efficiency renovation project at a build site in Budapest, Hungary. They will be working directly alongside Habitat families to improve their current living conditions.

Following on from this, a team of female employees will gather in Hungary for a build at a centre for autistic children. Then, a joint Whirlpool Europe and IKEA team will gather to build homes in Hungary. Finally, around 50 Whirlpool volunteers from across Europe will join forces in Romania to build homes there.

Not only is Whirlpool Europe helping with funds, volunteers and appliances throughout Europe and Central Asia, but with much needed funds to recover Haiti after a disastrous earthquake. Whirlpool Europe’s management agreed to centrally collect employees’ donations, and also those from other offices to support Habitat’s work in Haiti, matching all those collected in Italy.

Whirlpool Corporation shares Habitat for Humanity's belief that every family deserves a home, a safe place to put down roots and nurture a hopeful future. In the US the partnership has been active since 1999. Globally, Whirlpool Corporation has contributed more than $34 million in donations and cash to support Habitat's mission to eliminate poverty housing.
