Martin Luther King Jr. celebration

Jan. 20, 2013

The Motherlode Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee has been putting on this free annual event for the past 18 years. We hope you’ll attend the next celebration on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Sonora High, followed by a reception with refreshments.
The theme of each observance, based on Dr. King’s teachings and philosophy, is carefully chosen by committee members during the planning meetings throughout the year. Our mission is to promote and present programs that honor the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the ideals he embodied through his work. Our purpose in doing this is to increase awareness of the relevancy of Dr. King’s ideals to current social issues. The keynote speaker will be Fr. Roy Bourgeois, a Maryknoll priest who has been active for many years in the fight for social justice.
