We will have local high school students participate in building and experiencing the “shanty town lifestyle” for a day by building mock towns out of cardboard boxes. The students will be given a scenario type character and have simulated days where they must look for jobs and housing at different “agencies.” Their eligibility will be based on their character.
Once completed the students should have a new view on the hardships people go to in supporting and find housing for their families. Also, we intend to give the students the “can-do” attitude that through nonprofits like Habitat for Humanity, they can make a difference.
