Veteran Habitat volunteer encourages others to get involved
Clarence Richards of Jackson, Miss., has volunteered with Metro Jackson Habitat for Humanity for more than 10 years, having first gotten involved with Habitat through his church.

Clarence Richards, one of the selfless volunteers who have turned out to help with Operation Home Delivery, works on hammering together a piece of a house frame.

“I had so much fun that I kept on coming,” he says.
Although Richards had never been on a build site before he started volunteering with Habitat, Metro Jackson HFH’s experienced construction staff guided him through the house-building process. Today Richards teaches others and encourages anyone who is interested in Habitat’s work to contact a local affiliate and get involved.
“Just come out,” he says. “They will teach you everything. They’ll show you how to use the tools.”
As a veteran of many Habitat builds, participating in Operation Home Delivery is particularly meaningful to Clarence, as it has given him a tangible way to help those affected by the Gulf Coast hurricanes.
