What will you build? Hope for the future
Johnley Blanc, 4, stands at the entrance to a transitional shelter where he lives with his brother, mother and father in Cabaret, Haiti. Their home was destroyed by the massive earthquake that struck the country on January 12, 2010, but the family survived. Johnley’s father, Voltaire, is a motorcycle-taxi driver, and he comes home at least once each day to check on his family. “I love seeing my children playing again,” he says. Almost 1.5 million people were displaced or left homeless by the earthquake. Over the next five years, Habitat aims to serve 50,000 earthquake-affected families, helping Haitians move toward safer, more secure, permanent places to call home.
