Through events large and small, people throughout the United States and around the world recognized and honored World Habitat Day with Habitat for Humanity. Globally, activities included special builds to raise houses; radio, television and public educational programs to raise public awareness; volunteer appreciation and recruitment; special World Habitat Day proclamations; potluck dinners and pancake breakfasts. Online advocates of Habitat for Humanity sent nearly 6,000 letters to Senators McCain and Obama, urging the next U.S. president to make housing a priority. Newspapers, Web sites and television stations captured the success of Habitat for Humanity’s World Habitat Day celebrations. Thanks to all who embraced the significance and spirit of World Habitat Day and to those who are ready to get involved and get energized for World Habitat Day 2009: October 5, 2009!
