Working with a Habitat affiliate or national organization is often a life-changing experience. Global Village participants learn about poverty and housing issues on a local and global scale, and begin to understand community development challenges.

Trip participants give of themselves as they work alongside partner families and local volunteers of all backgrounds, races and religions. They learn about the host community’s culture, language and social practices and develop new skills and confidence. Participants become an active part of HFHI’s ecumenical Christian ministry and mission to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness worldwide. The impact of a Global Village experience is far-reaching—both for the families and the volunteers.

We are grateful for the dedicated, knowledgeable team leaders that make our program possible, and we are excited to help you plan your next trip. The Global Village trip catalog serves to help you in the initial trip-planning stages. Information about GV host programs is compiled here to make the process easier.

Ready to get started? Here is what you can do:

  • Understand the Global Village program.
This catalog is intended for trained Global Village team leaders ready to begin planning a trip. Check out our Catalog Overview to get started. If you are unfamiliar with the Global Village program or are looking just to participate in an existing trip, please visit the Global Village homepage.
  • Familiarize yourself with changes to the Global Village program since your last trip.
If you have led trips before, you may notice things are a little different: resources are available online, standard budgets and itineraries now help ensure a quality service experience for our volunteers, and more. If you have questions about these changes, you can view the FAQ: About the catalog page.
  • Explore your options!
Learn about trip options in any of Habitat’s five regions: Africa and the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the United States and Canada.
  • Decide on the type of trip you will lead.
This catalog can be used by leaders of both open-registration and closed-registration teams. If you have questions about the difference between open and closed teams, see our FAQ: Global Village general information.
  • Return to the site often for updates and additions.
Note that new host programs will continually be added. National programs that are not currently listed may be posted in the future. Team Leader Notes is a great way to stay updated. (See a sample of Global Village Team Leader Notes. E-mail gv@habitat.org if you are not receiving these monthly e-newsletters.)
