If you love the outdoors and have a passion for service, this volunteer trip to Flathead Valley, Montana, will be perfect for you.
You and your team of fellow volunteers will spend a week helping with the construction of an affordable, energy efficient townhome for a low-income family struggling to make ends meet in an area with high housing costs. Under the guidance of experts, your tasks will include digging the foundation, framing, roofing, installing windows and doors, insulation, painting and finish work.
Plus, as the gateway to Glacier National Park and home to crystal clear lakes and rivers, Flathead Valley offers an abundance of hiking, camping, fishing, golf, biking and other recreational opportunities.

Sample Standard Itinerary
- Day 1: Arrive in Flathead Valley and meet your team.
- Day 2-5: Work on the build site all day, followed by dinner and free time in the evenings.
- Day 6: Work a half-day, and then travel to Glacier National Park for sightseeing and fun activities.
- Day 7: Your trip to Montana may continue independently, or your may depart for home.

Accommodations and food
Teams stay in a vacation rental home that has a mix of beds, bunks and air mattresses. Teams will prepare some meals at the rental home and visit local restaurants.
Types of work for volunteers
Volunteers work side-by-side with Habitat partner families under the direction of a construction supervisor. Teams will help with the construction of energy efficient townhomes. All tools and construction site materials will be provided by the affiliate.

I have been blessed to be part of volunteer trips as a team member and leader to Alaska, Moloka’i, India, Egypt, Mozambique, Nepal, Thailand and New Mexico as well as working with disaster relief at Camp Hope in New Orleans and Eagle Butte, South Dakota.
