Living in Poverty area
The Living in Poverty area of the Global Village & Discovery Center sheds light on the substandard housing conditions of nearly 1.3 billion people.
What is poverty housing?
- Imagine living without immediate access to basic services—such as running water—necessary for health and life.
- Imagine living in a structure where it’s impossible to secure your possessions or protect your family against intruders.
Nearly 1.3 billion people in the world live in absolute poverty.
They often live on less than $1 a day. The vast majority of the world’s poor live in makeshift shelters that leave them exposed―vulnerable to weather, disease and violence. Running water, electricity, health or social services are unaffordable luxuries.
Living in cramped, unsafe conditions, every day is a struggle to survive.
