When should I read my credit report?

There are a variety of reason you’ll want to make it a habit to read your credit report.
When to Read Your Credit Report
Situation When to Read Why
• Routine checkup • At least once per year • To check for errors and fix them
• Working to improve your credit • At least twice per year • To check for errors and fix them
• To track your progress
• Before you:
  Look for a job
  Make a large purchase, such as a home or car
  Apply for a school loan
  Request utility service
  Buy insurance
  Rent an apartment
At least two to six months before you do these things

So you’ll have time to improve your credit if you think you’ll be denied a job, an apartment or credit
• You are a victim of identity theft • At least twice per year
