Credit Basics II
Stay on Track

Keep your financial documents organized and in a safe place:
• Receipts
• Bills
• Monthly statements
• Canceled checks
Keep your worksheet documents organized and in a safe place.
Pay all your bills on time, every month.
If you haven’t started an emergency fund, make it a short-term goal to start one.
When you have credit, you might be tempted to use it to pay for items that are not on your spending plan or not on your list of goals. Keep your financial goals in mind. Tape them to the bathroom mirror or the refrigerator, and read them aloud every day.
Read the small print on all account information. Make sure you know every opportunity your financial institution has to charge you a fee. This is the only way you will be able to avoid them. Don’t hesitate to ask a mentor or Habitat advisor for help understanding your account information.
Go to the PRBC (Payment Reporting Builds Credit) Web site at www.prbc.com. With a friend or mentor, take a look at the site and find out more on how it can help you build credit.
