Credit Crisis
Questions and Assessment

1. Complete the Credit Improvement Spending Plan and Debt Summary & Debt Reduction Plan worksheets with your Habitat advisor.
2. Write a short script for speaking with lenders to negotiate payments. Rehearse the script with a friend or your Habitat advisor. You might accomplish more if you practice before making these phone calls.
3. Talk to your Habitat advisor about going to a counseling agency if you feel too overwhelmed. Be sure to keep the Choosing a Credit Counselor checklist handy. You might also want to read the Federal Trade Commission’s Fiscal Fitness.
4. Talk to your Habitat advisor about the difference between working with credit counselors and debt reduction businesses. Make sure you understand what each one does, and how each one will affect your credit.
5. Work on getting to know the signs of pushy debt reduction businesses so you can avoid them.
