Order your free credit report if you haven’t done so.
Set a date to read it over and makes notes of any information that might be incorrect.
Ask a friend or mentor to read your credit report with you if you need help.
If you find errors on your plan, dispute them.
If you find requests for credit that you did not ask for or accounts you did not open, call one of the credit reporting agencies and request a fraud alert. The agency you call is required to contact the other two agencies about the alert. The other agencies will respond by placing fraud alerts on your credit reports.
