Jefferson Award
By Shawn Reeves In June, the American Institute for Public Service awarded Millard Fuller, founder and president of Habitat for Humanity International, the National Jefferson Award in the category of Greatest Public Service Benefiting the Disadvantaged. Begun in 1972, the National Jefferson Awards are presented in five categories to individuals whose community service has impacted the nation as a whole. Similar awards also are presented to individuals at the grassroots level. In a letter to Fuller announcing the decision, the institute said Fuller was selected for his "creative leadership in forming America's foremost non-for-profit housing development organization."
