When I lived in my old house, it was very cold in the winter and really hot in the summer,” writes 10-year-old David Hobbs of Beattyville, Ky. “Sometimes I would get scared at night when I heard things crawling around inside the walls. We had rats and giant spiders that got inside the house. I hated those spiders the most; they would get right on my bed.

“In the springtime, termites came out of the walls and flew all over the place. I was afraid to use the bathroom because there were so many of them in there. I also didn’t like having to share a room with my mom and dad and little sister.

“I was so excited when I found out we were getting a new Habitat house. I couldn’t wait to get my own room. Now it’s so nice and cool in the summer and so warm in the winter. I don’t have to worry about those giant spiders getting on my bed anymore either.

“I love going in my room and closing the door and lying on my bed and playing my video games. It’s my favorite room in the house.”
