Millard Fuller travels the world encouraging more involvement in Habitat's work. To date, Habitat partners have built more than 125,000 houses.
Faith + Works = Houses

"A person is justified by works, and not by faith only. For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."
-James 2:24, 26

A new Habitat house is being built, on average, every 26 minutes as Habitat for Humanity builds thousands of houses across the United States and in more than 80 other countries. And every 26 minutes, new homeowners move into those houses amid great rejoicing.

Faith in God and a belief that Christ wants us to love our neighbors is the overriding motivation behind this worldwide building activity. Even so, faith alone does not build even a single house. To build a house, one must take action.

And that faith-inspired action is making an incredible difference. Soon, Habitat will pass its 150,000-house mark. That means that more than 750,000 people will be living in Habitat houses. By the end of 2005, Habitat expects to have completed 200,000 houses for a million people.

But we must not become complacent. So many more families are languishing in pitiful living conditions.

I believe God has called us to this ministry of faith and love in action. We need to double house production within six years. We can do that, with God's help and guidance, and with the activated faith and loving action of dedicated people like you.

Please ask for God's guidance in your personal life and in the growing ministry of Habitat for Humanity. Then, get your checkbook and your hammer and saw. Donations of money, time and talent are necessary to keep Habitat houses going up and despair and hopelessness coming down.

Recently, I attended a Habitat house dedication service in Massachusetts. A 12-year-old boy took the microphone from his weeping mother. "Mama can't talk, so I'll speak for the family," he said. The boy told how the family had to stand up at night when it rained because their old house leaked so badly. He shared many things about their desperate living situation. "Now, though," he concluded, "we have a good place to live, with a good roof that won't leak and insulation that will keep us warm. My mother is crying because she is so emotional and so happy. Thank all of you for making life better for us."

Faith and action do make a difference. We must keep building because so many more families are depending on us.
