For too many families around the world, substandard houses not only pose structural threats, but also are more vulnerable to natural elements. This house in Brazil, for instance, backs up to a mud embankment and is in danger of washing away in a storm. Countless children like Ana Carolina, from Tres Rios, Brazil, live under such conditions every day.
