Putting Faith Into Action

Building on Faith week—a time in which Habitat for Humanity affiliates celebrate their partnerships with faith communities—is scheduled for Sept. 10–16. Blitz builds, communitywide worship services and awareness-raising campaigns are some of the ways in which affiliates around the world acknowledge their faith partners.

This annual event culminates on the third Sunday of September, the International Day of Prayer and Action for Human Habitat. The Day of Prayer, born of a desire to put housing on the minds and hearts of people everywhere, provides a specific opportunity for people of faith around the world to pray for those in need of shelter.

You're Invited to Celebrate 25 Years of Building

Affiliates, volunteers, supporters and partner families can register for Habitat for Humanity’s 25th Anniversary Celebration in Indianapolis, Ind., through Aug. 28, 2001. The event, which is scheduled for Sept. 13–16, includes workshops on ReStores, fund raising and urban issues; a performance of “Darkness Lifting,” a professionally produced play about Habitat’s impact; and a keynote address by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

Event organizers plan for this celebration to be the largest-ever Habitat “family reunion,” with representatives from all over the world. Thursday evening’s “Backyard at the Brickyard” party offers former international partners, Global Village team members, and volunteers who participated in Jimmy Carter Work Projects and AmeriCorps projects an opportunity to reunite and visit.

For information on registering for the 25th Anniversary Celebration, visit www.habitat.org/25th, call (800) HABITAT, ext. 2825, or e-mail 25anniversary@hfhi.org.

One Family At A Time

One Family at a Time—a soon-to-be released special 25th anniversary book—celebrates Habitat for Humanity’s past quarter-century of working to eliminate poverty housing. The book chronicles HFHI's history through homeowner profiles and more than 250 color photographs that tell Habitat’s story from around the world. The book may be purchased by calling Habitat at (800) 422-5914, or by checking with your local bookseller after Sept. 15. The book sells for $25US; bookstore distribution by Andrews McMeel Publishers.
