You're invited: '25 and Building' Anniversary Celebration Planned

Habitat for Humanity partners from around the world are invited to join in the organization’s 25th anniversary celebrations scheduled for Sept. 8-16, 2001. The family-oriented array of events will be in Indianapolis, Ind.

Delegates from every country where Habitat operates will join U.S. partners in Indianapolis, giving the anniversary events an international flavor. There will be star-studded entertainment, in addition to workshops for affiliates.

No Habitat gathering would be complete without the sound of hammers ringing.

In honor of the anniversary, Greater Indianapolis HFH will hold a 25-house, three-week build that concludes on Sept. 8.

A schedule with volunteer needs will be posted on Habitat’s Web site at www.habitat.org as plans are finalized. The build is part of a 250-house building effort by Indiana affiliates throughout 2001. Details and registration information for the anniversary celebration will be available on www.habitat.org.

During HFH New York City's major donor recognition evening on Sept. 11, renowned artist Peter Max presented a set of four original acrylic paintings on canvas to former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. Max created the portraits of Carter because of his admiration for the President's dedication to Habitat for Humanity. "I wanted to honor President Carter in the best way I know how," Max says. Two of the portraits have been installed in the Carter Center in Atlanta, Ga.
