For five joy-filled days in fall 2007, the aspirations of Habitat partner families were the inspiration for thousands of Habitat volunteers and supporters. Led by former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn, Habitat for Humanity’s annual Jimmy Carter Work Project resulted in affordable houses built and rehabilitated around the Greater Los Angeles area.

From Oct. 28-Nov. 2, Habitat partners and volunteers worked side by side to build and repair houses, houses that began to become homes with the very first swing of a well-aimed hammer. And as the walls were raised and painted, so were the hopes and prospects of families like the ones featured on these pages, families who have long dreamed of — and now finally are — coming to a home of their own.
