Campaign Extends
Habitat's Building Capacity
Given the dire need for adequate shelter, Habitat for Humanity has extended its commitment to building simple, decent homes in partnership with low-income families the world over. One measure of this commitment is the More Than Houses: Rebuilding Our Communities fund-raising initiative.
Chaired by former U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Jack Kemp and launched in January 2000, More Than Houses will raise $500 million, which when combined with ongoing fund-raising efforts, is the minimum needed to reach Habitat for Humanity's 200,000-house objective by the end of 2005. To date, the campaign has raised more than $230 million.
It took Habitat 24 years to build the first 100,000 houses. Fueled by the More Than Houses campaign, we will double that number in the next few years, bringing to 1 million the number of people living under Habitat roofs.
Volunteers and donors always have been central to the success of this organization, and we're grateful for your support. Please visit the secure online donation page of this Web site to extend that support. Together, we can fashion a world in which no one is forced to endure the hardships of poverty housing. Thank you very much for your partnership.
