Decent housing makes the difference in rural Africa

Democratic Republic of the Congo: In a country of nearly 60 million people, expansive lakes, mountains and natural beauty belie the ravages of civil war, AIDS/HIV and poverty. However, some 3,000 poor families in the DROC have partnered with Habitat for Humanity to change their lives by building—and then buying—decent, affordable houses. Habitat homes in the DROC have concrete floors, fired-brick walls, iron sheet roofs and detached latrines.
