Jimmy Carter Work Project: A Living and Lasting Legacy Since 1984, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, have led Habitat for Humanity International's Jimmy Carter Work Project. Held in a different location each year, the annual event not only results in hundreds of simple, decent houses for low-income families, but it also raises awareness of poverty housing and of Habitat's approach to overcoming it. In 19 years, thousands of volunteers have joined the Carters to build more than 2,000 houses in locations throughout the United States and around the world. The following pages provide coverage of the most recent JCWP in South Africa and revisit the 2000 and 2001 projects. |
