Jimmy Carter Work Project Heads to the Deep South in 2003

Vehicles around south Georgia already are sporting the slogan: "Grab your hammer, Jimmy's comin'!" And by next June 9-13, that slogan likely will be well known in and around Anniston, Ala., and Valdosta and LaGrange, Ga., as former U.S. President Jimmy Carter totes his hammer to each of those cities for his namesake Habitat for Humanity project.

With a focus on rural America, the 20th JCWP is on its way to these communities, each of which has accepted the challenge of eliminating poverty housing locally. As certified participants in Habitat's 21st Century Challenge, these affiliates have set dates by which such housing will be a thing of the past in their communities.
