Habitat for Humanity began its efforts to reduce poverty housing in Haiti in Avril 1982 with work in one community.
Now Habitat Haiti is working in 6 regions of the country and has reached 14 communities.
Habitat for Humanity Haiti was created with the objective to eliminate poverty housing and to provide a decent and affordable house to each family in needs.
The Houses
Habitat for Humanity Haiti has provided 1,200 housing solutions, helping 6,000 families/people attain a decent place to live.
Our national program constructs houses from concrete, with an area of 49m2 The average cost is U$S 5,000, with monthly payments of US Dollar Amount.
We also authorize loans of up to U$S 3,500 for renovations and expansions for five year terms.
Housing Needs
According to statistics from IHSI 2005, Haiti has a housing deficit of approximately one million homes. It is estimated that 700k people live in substandard conditions and that 300k people are homeless.
The regions in the most dire need of housing include Artibonite, Grande Anse, Plateau Central, Jacmel.
