Argentina — Brigades Assistant Coordinator

Assignment summary

For Habitat for Humanity Argentina, Community Mobilization is key to raising awareness and furthering the mission. Local, national and international volunteers play a very critical role of great importance to the organization.

Volunteer brigades are are often volunteers’ first contact with and opportunity to learn about HFH. Through the brigades, potential donors are established, and new partnerships with companies and institutions are made.

This position allows for great interaction and learning from many different people involved with HFHA. Through interactions with families, volunteers, donors and national office and local staff, this position offers the volunteer the chance to see a wide spectrum of the organization's work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the organization, implementation and logistics of brigades.
    Prepare all paperwork related to brigades.
    Manage Google calendar, an important means of communication between offices.
  • Provide on site support for both national and international brigades.
    Travel to Santa Fe or Lujan for one to two weeks, approximately once every two months. More travel may be necessary.
    Serve as an on site supervisor to ensure the safety, happiness and well-being of the volunteers.
    Translate between English and Spanish.
    Provide 24/7 attention to the well-being of the brigade members, both on and off site.
    Serve as HFHA liaison and representative with knowledge about HFHA's mission.
  • Offer general support to the brigades coordinator and the field assistants’ volunteer group.
  • Manage databases, including inputting brigade data, generating analysis and processing evaluations.
  • Keep orientation manuals and information up to date.
  • Give pre-brigade talks and presentations.
  • Give informative talks to large audiences, either corporate or institutional.
  • Give internal trainings.
    Prepare PowerPoint presentations on subjects related to the area.
    Travel to local offices and train local staff.


Requirements

  • Spanish and English fluency, both written and oral.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve and think creatively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word) and Internet usage.
  • Preferred: College degree and experience working in multicultural environments and group management.
  • Due to housing availability, position is not suitable for families.


Support from the host organization

Simple, shared accomodation may be available to the volunteer at no extra cost. The housing is located at the national office in Florida. Transportation that is related to work activities will be covered by HFHA.

HFHA has limited computers at the national office, and therefore it is preferred that the volunteer provide his or her own computer or laptop.

Visas are given for a maximum period of three months. Volunteers are required to leave the country and re-enter in order to be granted another three months. Most volunteers take a trip to a neighboring country, such as Uruguay.

Within 30 days of departure, the volunteer must confirm the purchase of MedEx insurance for his or her term of service. Depending on the plan selected and age of the volunteer, a price estimate is provided. Please visit the MedEx Web site to verify details.
