Title: Global Village Coordinator
Location: Habitat for Humanity Middle East, Jordan National Office
Term of service: 18 months (starting July 2009)
Assignment summary
Reporting to the national director, the volunteer in this position will manage HFH Jordan’s Global Village hosting program. The volunteer is responsible for the implementation of the Global Village program by developing a standard operating procedure for the national program.
Global Village is a Habitat program that organizes one- to three-week build trips for groups who wish to help construct Habitat houses abroad. The Global Village coordinator will be responsible for developing promotional material, such as e-mails and brochures; assisting incoming Global Village teams by greeting them at the airport; administering an orientation and participating in construction; helping to prepare Global Village team reports, which include evaluations and Global Village team database updates; and conducting followups with the Habitat families to share with the Global Village teams.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and confirm Global Village calendar.
- Correspond with sending country coordinator and team leaders to prepare appropriate itineraries and budgets.
- Provide orientation to Global Village teams about Habitat for Humanity International, Habitat for Humanity Jordan and Jordanian culture.
- Host all Global Village teams and accompany teams.
- Orient HFH Jordan local staff and communities.
- Receive and process administrative requests.
- Prepare logistical arrangements for teams (e.g., accommodation, transport, meals, etc.).
- Accompany teams to build sites and prepare emergency, health and evacuation plans.
- Prepare homeowner profile for marketing purposes.
- Gather feedback from Global Village participants including recommendations to improve the program.
- Liaise with all vendors and troubleshoot any misunderstandings or complications.
- Update and revise Global Village handbook, policies, evaluations and materials as needed.
- Prepare CDs for each volunteer to present at their farewell dinner.
- Add volunteer information to the database for quarterly reports.
- Participate in weekly operational meetings with field coordinators and the resource development coordinator.
- Participate in strategic planning meetings with national director.
Requirements
English fluency, both written and oral; strong verbal communication skills; excellent people skills; attention to detail; self motivation; ability work independently with minimal supervision and ability to solve problems and think creatively; proficiency in Microsoft software programs (i.e., Outlook, Excel and Word) and Internet usage; university degree in a relevant field. Experience working in multicultural environments strongly preferred.
Due to housing availability, this position is not suitable for families.
Support from the host organization
Rent for an apartment will be provided. Work-related hardware, including a laptop, office space, work-related transportation and necessary documents for a residential visa will be provided.
Volunteer budget
Apart from the support given by the host organization, the volunteer will be responsible for all other costs associated with living in the host country.

Assignment location information
Habitat for Humanity Jordan office is located in Jabal Webde, an older neighborhood near downtown Amman, the capital city of Jordan. All project sites are located within a two hour drive from our office and can be reached in a day trip.
