The Jimmy Carter Work Project 2001 was honored today as South Korean President Kim Dae Jung joined volunteers on site. His visit was a statement of support for the Village of Reconciliation being built in Asan, South Korea, by Habitat For Humanity.

In a media conference earlier, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter referred to Nobel Laureate Kim Dae Jung as one of his "true heroes." "My hope is that you will give him full support in his national reconciliation attempts with North Korea," Carter told the people of South Korea, adding, "and then Habitat For Humanity International will have opportunities to extend their support."

The media conference was held amidst building sounds, which Founder and President Millard Fuller referred to as "the Habitat for Humanity symphony; and the song they are playing of love and faith in action." Fuller reminded the gathering that "this is a tiny piece of what is happening this week, as all around the world the World Leaders Build is happening, where leaders like former Philippine President Cory Aquino and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter are building hundreds of houses."

As Aquino put it, "In Habitat for Humanity we have a better understanding of what globalization should be. We love and care for each other."
