Homeowner family looking forward to winter warmth

This week is not the first time David and Susan Shore have been on a construction site. After all, David is employed as a construction worker, and the activity of a build site—saws, sunburns and pounding nails—is relatively familiar. So why is Susan taking pictures of House #7 so often?
“I’m making a scrapbook,” she says, “so even if we move, we’ll always have it. Not that we’re planning to move.”
At the end of the month, David and Susan will be homeowners for the first time. They’ve met their neighbors by working together to build walls and trusses over the past few months, and they hope the good relationships will continue long after this week. The anticipation is enough to keep them on the build site, rain and shine, even though their sweat equity hours were finished a few weeks ago.
“I don’t mind packing this time, because I know I won’t be packing again for a long time—if ever,” Susan says.
One of the most anticipated benefits of their new Habitat house is one they won’t take advantage of for a few months: heat. Their current rented house has no heat in the winter, Susan says.
“It’s going to be nice to be able to take a bath without having to jump in and jump out,” she says. “It’s going to be so much more comfortable.”
