Family Encourages Volunteers to Continue Helping Others

Currently José and Patricia share a single room with their two daughters, ages 9 and 4, in José's parents' house. Ten people share three rooms. José and Patricia look forward to better communication with one another and less conflict in the new house. They anticipate a "radical change" in their lives, more freedom and more understanding as a couple and as an entire family.

Building their own home, House # 26 sponsored by Los Angeles Habitat for Humanity, has been exciting for the couple, and they have learned many new skills. But working alongside volunteers has been the best part of their experience at the Jimmy Carter Work Project. "There are no words to explain it," says José. He is amazed that so many people are willing to help his family and others without reward.

José also compliments President Carter on his support of the project and Habitat for Humanity. "I want to give him thanks," he says, "because everyone is here, in part, because of him. He must be a very sensitive person."

As the week ends, José and Patricia thank President Carter and all of the volunteers for their efforts, and they encourage everyone to stay involved with Habitat's work, here and around the world.
