Meeting volunteers is best part of build for homeowner

Joy Clark is still overwhelmed by the idea of owning a home she helped build with a group of dedicated volunteers.

“The other day I woke up and just started bawling,” she says. “It’s going to take awhile to get used to the fact that this is mine,” she says.

Joy and her three children currently live with her grandmother and are eager to have a place of their own. She says that her kids are particularly excited about living across the street from the park.

Although Joy and her family look forward to moving into their new home, she says that getting to know the volunteers has been the most rewarding part of the experience.

“The volunteers are trying to make sure that everything is perfect,” she says. “They have been the most important part of this experience for me.”
